This is a different version of Romeo and Juliet than we read in class. Because Anya's father was the head of the mafia, Win's father, the assistant DA, refuses to let them be together (sound familiar?).
Anya wants to protect her brother and sister at all cost after their parents' death, but she does not want to become involved in the family business. She lives with her older mentally challenged brother, younger sister and her dying grandmother. Win moves into town and they are instantly drawn to each other, but Anya does not want to become involved with him.
When her ex-boyfriend is poisoned from contaminated chocolate and Anya is arrested for it, Win's father, the District Attorney, makes a deal: she will be released as long as she agrees to stay away from Win. Anya tries, but Win does not give up so easy. Anya has to figure out who poisoned her ex-boyfriend and keep her family together.
